Great Value in the Heart of Stone Town

by RushtonFox on 15 Jan 2017

As the title says, good value. It's in the heart of stone town in a old Indian merchant house. The room is very romantic although pack mosquito repellent. The staff are helpful and we got the feeling they cared about our stay. They delivered on what was promised. The breakfast was enjoyable. Heads up, there will probably not be any hot water or wifi in your room.

Avoid the Happy Hour for Sunset Temptation Here -- NOT Worth It At All!

by Ben N on 31 Dec 2016 (Friends Traveller)

For starters, the saving grace of this place is the existence of an elevator. If you're in the elderly age bracket, or if the knees won't hold out, or plain drunk or lazy, it's easier to get up to the 4th floor here than other equally tall and older buildings. Pretty much everything after that is a downside with this place. The drinks are god-awful. We had the caipirinha with the local Konyagi and honey drink. Lovely spot for lunch

by Peter H on 26 Dec 2016 (Couple Traveller)

We were a little put off by the overall review of this restaurant but as the top two were fully booked, we opted to have a late lunch and try it out anyway. You can arrive the rooftop restaurant either by lift or several flights of steep stairs. At the top, you obtain a view of rusty iron rooftops of Stone Town in addition to sighting the tops of the Anglican Church and the House of Wonders. We ordered a couple of beers and we went for the mango and cashew nut salad combined with the beef sam...

Good solid hotel!

by Jonna N on 30 Nov 2016 (Couple Traveller)

A good hotel with nice people working there. Good service. Nice food and drinks on the wonderful rooftop. Nice clean rooms. Very good! Not the cheapest hotel but not expensive either. Solid! I would go again.

Unique Hotel

by curtispe10 on 29 Nov 2016 (Friends Traveller)

The Swahili House is an oasis located in the heart of crowded, bustling Stone Town. The rooms are comfortable, and there is a restaurant and small soaking pool on the roof that offer amazing views of the city. Many mosques neighbor the hotel so the Call to Prayer is a frequent concert. The manager, Benita, is charming, and the staff is helpful.
