about shri wagheshwari temple

Shri Wagheshwari Temple is the temple dedicated to Hindu Goddess Bhagwati. The diety is also known as Wagheshwari Mata which is supposed to be the 4th avatar or incarnation of Goddess Saraswati. The entrance of the temple is adorned with huge elephant statues. An important tradition in this temple is the vermilion ceremony where married women put the red powder on each other's forehead. The Vermilion is considered a sacred symbol of marriage for Hindu women, and thus this ceremony marks an important place in these womens' lives.
