1. Visit Shaniwar Wada Peth

The Peshwa’s citadel-like Shaniwar Wada Fort was built in 1736 but razed in a fire in 1828. You can still see its outer walls, and the entrance with spikes to deter enemy elephants. There’s a sound-and-light show every evening.

Entry Fee: INR 5 for Indians (INR 25 for Light and Sound Show)

2. Sky Watching at IUCAA Campus

Interested in stars? Visit the science center for a sky show on the premises of the Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pune University. This unusual campus, with its fractal hostels, its Foucault's pendulum and unusual arrangement of buildings, is worth a visit.

3. Visit the Kelkar Museum

This unusual museum in Shukrawar Peth is one of the most famous museums in Pune. Here, you will see a very un-museum-like, almost homely collection and pieces of temple architecture from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan along with 18th and 19th century dolls from Sawantwadi among others.

The cantonment area has wide, lovely roads and a series of churches and synagogues dating from 19th century. It houses St. Xavier’s Church, Ohel David Synagogue and St. Paul Church-- some of the many famous places to visit in Pune. Kayani’s on E Street is famous for its Shrewsbury biscuits and fresh cakes. Sweet Chariot Café in Koregaon Park has amazing apple crumble with ice-cream. Marzorin is an old and reasonably priced bakery where you can sit on the first floor at old Irani tables and watch Main Street go by.

9. Make a trip to Sinhagad

Sinhagad Fort, the fort of the lion, is a well-frequented site where you can refresh your childhood memories you knew about Shivaji and his attempts to control this fort. A few kilometers from here is Khadakwasla Lake, a beautiful reservoir and a picnic destination. Regular buses go from Swargate in Pune and if you are travelling in a group, taxi charges will be INR 440/4 hours.

The picturesque hill station of Lonavala is a hot favourite among the college students as the trip is quite affordable and enjoyable. You can just sit, relax and watch the sunset while you enjoy a steaming cup of tea or savour some hot maggie for your culinary cravings.
