Dal Lake:

The scenic Dal lake is one of the famous touristy attractions in town and has interesting legendary stories attached to it. It’s a beautiful walk (about 2 km) to the lake from the town, though you can also drive. Ask a local to direct you to the jungle trail to Dal Lake from McLeodganj.

Church of St John-in-the-Wilderness


The sturdy Church of St John-in-the- Wilderness, with its exquisite stainedglass windows depicting John the Baptist with Jesus, was among the first buildings to be erected here by the British in 1852. With so much historical and interesting facts to discover here, no wonder the church is one of the top attractions in Mcleodganj.

Bhagsunag Temple & Waterfall


Located near the main market, this famous temple has strong mythological connection. The shrine, whose origin revolves around a myth about a great fight between the demon king (Bhagsu) and the snake god (Nag), has been rebuilt more than once and, in its present incarnation, is covered in white bathroom tiles. Located in close proximity is the picturesque Bhagsu water fall, one of the famous places to visit in hill station. After taking blessings of the presiding deity, you can head over to the beautiful waterfall for some precious moments of peace and quiet.

Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts:


Theatre, in the form of the traditional opera, is big in Tibetan culture. No wonder then Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) is a place which no art lover can miss to visit in town. It hosts a number of festivals and events all round the year and each one of them promises an unforgettable experience.

Shopping at Mcleodganj


In McLeodganj’s main bazaar are vendors of Tibetan carpets, thangkas, ponchos, jackets, chubas, masks, votive objects, silver and stone jewellery and trinkets, lamps, statuettes, sleeping bags, fruit preserves tahini and muesli. You can also pick up Tibetan cheese and excellent tea, prayer wheels and flags. And, of course, don’t neglect to pop into Nowrojee’s for unusual finds and everyday essentials. In short, shopping in this scenic hill station is an ultimate experience.

Trekking


Mcleodganj is a huge favorite trekking destination with its interesting and rugged trails. On the enthralling 9 km trek you will cross the rugged villages of Rakkar and Dharamkot, two of the beautiful cities of Himachal Pradesh, besides the craggy walking trails and the valley below. The trek takes upto 8 hours and is slightly strenuous. Make sure to carry a warm jacket, a umbrella or a raincoat for unpredictable rains showers. There are a plethora of activities to explore and enjoy at this picturesque place and trekking is one of them.
