about town hall

One of the most remarkable structures in the city, the Town Hall built in 1904 was originally named King Edwards Hall. Featuring Indo-Gothic style of architecture, the hall was renamed Mahatma Gandhi Hall in 1948. This structure made in Seoni stone along with its domes and staples is an important landmark in the city today. Town hall has a huge four-faced clock tower in the front. It is because of this grand clock that the structure is also known as Ghanta Ghar and is hence a landmark in itself especially if you are travelling through cycle rickshaws. Town Hall is very frequently used as a venue for several painting and book exhibitions along with several events and festivals organised throughout the year. To add more charm to the place, the building also features a temple, a library and a children's park.
