IRCTC Train Ticket Booking

IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation) has transformed the face of train travel in India. It leads online train e-ticket booking through its all-inclusive website. Besides e-tickets, IRCTC also offers I-tickets that are like regular tickets, but are booked online and delivered by post to your doorstep. IRCTC functions as a one-stop shop for rail tour packages, spanning hotel bookings, tourist trains, car rentals, e-ticketing as well as i-ticketing. It also runs a 24*7 support centre that helps address issues like train ticketing, train timings, tour bookings and seat availability.
One can also check Train PNR Status Live on its website or app.

Train Ticket Reservations:

IRCTC has made train travel much easier with its online booking feature. Reserving a seat on the IRCTC official new website of Indian Railways is instantaneous, safe and simple. On the website, there are two modes of booking a ticket - i−tickets and e−tickets. I-tickets are regular train tickets that are delivered to your doorstep via courier. I-ticket service is only available across select cities. E-tickets are online copy of a train ticket which you need to save on your computer and take a print out of. If you book an e-ticket, you are required to present a government-issued photo identity while travelling. Recently, IRCTC launched a mobile application called IRCTC Mobile for booking tickets on the go on your java-enabled smartphones. IRCTC Mobile is a convenient way to book train tickets on an interface which is easy to navigate. In order to use IRCTC Mobile, you need to register yourself with IRCTC for using the IRCTC Mobile or from the web site. Tickets that are ordered using the app will be delivered to your postal address within three working days.

IRCTC UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System):

"Unreserved Ticketing System on mobile" (UTS) is a mobile application which allows a passenger to book an unreserved paperless ticket for a journey between any two stations. The IRCTC UTS app eliminates the need for a passenger to visit a counter for an unreserved ticket. After booking an unreserved paper ticket, one can also collect it from an automatic ticket vending machine in any part of the country.

Also with an offline mode, the IRCTC UTS helps a passenger to access the ticket even without internet. One can pay for the ticket through an R-wallet (Railway wallet) which is an online wallet by the Indian Railways.

IRCTC FTR (Full Tariff Rate):

To make online booking of train coaches easier for occasions such as marriage party or tour, IRCTC FTR (Full Tariff Rate) allows to make bookings for an entire train or a coach via its website. It is allowed for a journey starting from stations. One can book through a 'single window booking system' of IRCTC.

The registration can be done a maximum of six months in advance and a minimum of 30 days prior to the journey date. Railways have fixed a security deposit of Rs. 50,000/coach and in case of special trains a minimum of 18 coaches will be charged.

IRCTC Current, General, Tatkal & Ladies quota Booking:

On a general booking, you can prepone or postpone the date of journey on Confirmed/RAC/Waitlisted tickets in the same or a higher class with extra charges. Note that this facility can be availed only once, for RAC and waitlisted tickets as well. Tatkal reservation facility is available in all Mail/Express trains including special trains. Tatkal (Emergency) tickets are basically meant for passengers who want to travel at a short time’s notice, say in a day or two. Given on a first-come, first-serve basis, tatkal tickets can be booked only 24 hours before the departure of your train. Tatkal tickets cannot be booked for First Class A/C and these tickets are non-refundable. In the year 2011, IRCTC introduced ‘Ladies Quota’ which provides concessions to women who are either travelling alone or with a child below 3 years of age. These concessions are offered to women travelling in sleeper class and there are only 6 booked berths on Ladies Quota in a train. IRCTC also has provisions for discounted tickets for senior citizens, students, disabled citizens and more. One can pay through cash, credit cards and debit cards on the IRCTC website and the IRCTC Mobile App.
