More About Kumbh Mela Special Trains

World’s largest religious gathering, Kumbh Mela 2019 is all set to begin from 15th January. To ease the travel of pilgrims arriving in huge numbers during the Kumbh Mela, the railways has proposed running 800 special trains for Kumbh from various stations of Prayagraj district. Now, the chances of facing travel-related problems by the passengers is surely going to reduce.

For the passengers coming from Western UP including Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Maruadih, and stations from Bihar, Lucknow, Faizabad, Sultanpur, Special trains for Prayagraj Kumbh will be operated in different railway zones of the nation.

To help the millions of pilgrims visiting Prayagraj participate in the Kumbh Mela 2019 and in view of the extreme rush of people, Indian Railways, as a special case, has decided to allow 15 days advance booking of unreserved railway tickets from 12 stations lying in the Prayagraj region.

In view of the religious beliefs of pilgrims and for promoting tourism in the country, the central government has decided to abolish the fair surcharge being imposed by the Railways. This will provide relief to passengers coming to Kumbh and other such events. The tickets for the Allahabad Kumbh Mela trains have been kept really low so that a maximum number of devotees can attend the event and enjoy this unique gathering.

In order to make the whole experience even more convenient, Indian Railways is planning to operate four to five Kumbh special trains to ferry 5,000 Pravasi Bharatiya from Prayagraj to New Delhi. They will be in Prayagraj to participate in the Kumbh Mela after attending the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas at Varanasi.

Special trains for Kumbh Mela 2019 will commence from January 13 and continue till March 6, 2019. These trains will be operated for stations mainly in three directions i.e., Kanpur, Jhansi, and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction. Many efforts are being made by the rail administration for the largest human Samagam fair to be held in Prayagraj. A large number of trains are being operated from North Central Railway stations across the north central railway station to provide smooth transport of devotees.

These 800 trains for Kumbh Mela will be in addition to the regular ones that run from Prayagraj. For sleeper and AC coaches in regular mails and express trains, the fares will be very reasonable. The coaches will have colourful and attractive images of Kumbh Mela, various landmarks and images of mythological significance. Also, to promote local culture, North Central Zone Cultural Centre, under the MInistry of Culture, will put up stalls at passengers enclosures showcasing the art, culture and heritage of Prayagraj.
