Derived from the Sanskrit word "Dwara", Dooars (daaors) is the doorway to Bhutan and the hill stations of North Bengal. Replete with lush natural beauty, Dooars (daaors) is a breathtaking amalgamation of sprawling tea gardens, lush forest cover, and numerous rolling hills. Criss-crossed by many rivers, such as Teesta, Raidak, Kaljani and Torsha, Dooars (daaors) is a spectacular retreat.
A splendid town in the Jalpaiguri District of West Bengal, Dooars (daaors) act as the doorway to the entire north-eastern region of India being located in the Indo-Bhutan border. The valley is covered in lush greenery offering a rejuvenating sight for the eyes of a tired city dweller. Drained by mountain rivers like the Teesta, Torsa, Jaldhaka, Raidak and their tributaries, the aura of the valley refreshes the body and soul of visitors. Not much is known to the world about Dooars (daaors), but this sprawling valley stretches from River Teesta on the west to River Sankosh on the east. The Eastern Himalayas stand guard to this quaint place. Most parts of the valley are covered in thick verdant forests. The roads are cut along these forests and a drive through these roads with dense forests on both sides can really be an unforgettable experience. For a truly memorable experience, take a road trip to Dooars. The sights and sounds of this hilly retreat will amaze you!

One major attraction of the Dooars Valley are its existing wildlife sanctuaries. The Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most famous sanctuaries in this area. You can spot the one-horned rhino which is the most famous inhabitant of this region. Other animals include the bison, leopard, different types of reptiles, wild boars, spotted deer and a large number of peacocks. Other sanctuaries located here include the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, the Gorumara National Park and the Buxa Tiger Project.

India's north-eastern region is known for its fragrant and robust cuisine. Dooars is no exception when it comes to locally produced and cooked food. From fresh fish pickles to fermented bamboo shoots, the cuisine is simple yet unique. The laidback pace of time and simplicity of people will make you want to visit this place again. So ditch the tried and tested formulas and go on a journey of a lifetime in Dooars (daaors).
