Steep hills alternated with gorgeous valleys where the only noise that you can here is of the rippling waterfalls- welcome to Kotagiri. Take a walk through the villages, dig into some local cuisine, admire the ancient bungalows and return only after you’ve bagged your share of some Nilgiri Tea. Shhhh! Kotagiri also has come gold mines! Are you ready to explore?
Kotagiri is more of a tea territory, in the shade of the Dodda Betta Range. There is little to do except trekking inside the Longwood Shola preserve. But the spectacular 220o, take-all-you can view offered by the Kodanad Viewpoint (18 km from Kotagiri) is a great reason to go all the way. The viewpoint is nestled beside one of the most beautiful 1,000 acres of tea gardens — Kodanad Estate.

Gorgeous flower farms and soothing tea estates. Still wish to get more? Well, just climb up to Kodanad for a rewarding view of the Mysore plateau on one side and the stunning Thengumaraha village on the other. Amongst the various hills and peaks, there's the Rangaswamy Peak, highly revered by the Nilgiri people. There is also ample of scope for a nice nature walk in the Longwood forest. Some flying foxes and bison will be more than happy to greet you!

The traffic is minimal, and tea plantations and old bungalows keep you company. After about 2 km a lane veers left, which will take you to High Field Tea Estate, and back to Sim’s Park. Or you can keep walking on the main road for more views.
