about trekking at leti

Trekking at Leti is truly an experience. A 4-hours trek up to a shepherd’s pasture on a ridge about 10,500 ft high is worth exploring. Its a difficult path uphill but as you reach the  ruined herder’s hut and a chorten, you see a simply jaw-dropping, staggering sight — 300 km of the entire Central Himalayan Massif.  There is nothing quite like it on earth. The centrepiece is the incomparably beautiful peak of Nanda Devi, at over 26,000 ft, the highest peak entirely within India.

Most of all, to visit Leti you have to be fit, and should ideally have had some experience of trekking over difficult terrain at moderate altitude (6,500-7,200 ft). It’s easy for an inexperienced or ill-shod walker to twist an ankle. This is scenic beauty that is utterly worth any amount of panting and sweating, but if you have any doubts about your physical and cardio-vascular fitness to enjoy the experience, do check with your doctor before setting out.
