It is possible to visit a vineyard and go parasailing even if you are planning a trip under 5k in India. Check out these weekend getaways and you would know what we are talking about!

Delhi

1. Agra (231 km)

If you are planning a weekend trip from Delhi, Agra is probably the first destination that comes to your mind and rightly so. There is so much to see and do in Agra, including one of the Seven Wonders in the World, the Taj Mahal. You can also explore Sikandra Fort, take a stroll in the gardens surroundings the magnificent tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah or watch sound and light show at the Agra Fort. There are a lot of options for shopping in Agra as well and picking up a box of petha as a souvenir is a must!

How to reach: It just takes a little over 3 hours if you are travelling by road from Delhi to Agra via the Yamuna Expressway. A round trip from Delhi to Agra would cost you around INR 400 by train.
Hotel tariff: You can get good budget hotels like Hotel Pawan and Hotel Taj View at around INR 500 to 1000 per night.
Recommended stay duration: 2-3 days
Places to visit: Most of the places of interest in Agra like the Agra Fort, Taj Mahal, Taj Nature Park, etc., have an entry fee ranging between INR 5 to INR 20 which means you can actually do a lot of sightseeing without spending much.

2. Kasol (519 km)

A paradise for backpackers, Kasol is a beautiful village situated in the Parvati Valley. Explore the quaint pinewood-covered forests, indulge in river rafting or just sit by the river side and savour delicious international delicacies. If you want an impromptu trip close to the nature, Kasol is your best bet!

How to reach: It takes around 14 hours to reach from Delhi to Kasol by bus. Once you reach ISBT, take a bus going to Manali and get down at Bhuntar and from there you can take a local bus to Kasol (around INR 35). Base fares from Delhi to Bhuntar are around INR 600 one way and go higher as bus quality increases.
Hotel tariff: You are really going to love staying in Kasol as there are ample accommodation options available which are beautifully located. You can rent a riverside room for as low as INR 500 a night.
Recommended stay duration: 3-4 days
Places to visit: Apart from just chilling riverside, you can go trekking and hiking as well. Kasol Malana Trek or the Kasol Kheerganga Trek can take a whole day to explore.

3. Mathura (182 km)

Take a spiritual break from Delhi and head to Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Located on the banks of River Yamuna, Mathura attracts thousands of devotees every year and is ideal for a weekend trip from Delhi. Another great reason to visit Mathura is to explore the beautiful architecture of various Hindu temples in Mathura.


How to reach: A Delhi-Mathura round trip would cost you around INR 600 by bus.
Hotel tariff: There are many good hotels in Mathura where you can stay for as little as INR 1000 per night. Consider Hotel K.M.B. Mathura and Hotel Krishna for a budget option.
Recommended stay duration: 2-3 days
Places to visit: A visit to Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple is a must in Mathura. It is believed that this is the place where Lord Krishna was born. Gita Mandir and Radha Kund should be definitely explored as well.

Mumbai


4. Matheran

Situated in the lush green Western Ghats, Matheran is the smallest hill station in India. Being Asia’s only automobile-free hill station, you can only use hand pulled rickshaws and horses to commute here. There are many beautiful viewpoints here from where you can watch spectacular sunrise and sunsets. It is one of the best options from Mumbai if you are planning a trip under 5k in India.


How to reach: Take a train from Mumbai to Neral (90 km) and then a toy train from Neral to Matheran (21 km). Since no automobiles are allowed, you will have to hire a porter and take a horse or auto rickshaw to reach your hotel. The entire journey will cost approximately INR 1000.
Hotel tariff: You can easily manage to rent a room around INR 500 a night in hotels like Nagesh Kadam Lodge and Pratiksha Cottage.
Recommended stay duration: 2-3 days

5. Kihim (95 km)

Kihim is just 12 km away from Alibaug and is really popular amongst those seeking a beach vacation. Whether you want a quiet beach vacation or indulge in water sports, Kihim is a great destination to consider for a weekend getaway.

How to reach: You can take a ferry from Mumbai to Mandwa as Kihim is the closest beach from here. It will take approximately one and a half hours. A round trip would cost you around INR 1000.
Hotel tariff: There are many small guest houses and villas, where you can rent a room for as low as INR 1000 per night.
Recommended stay duration: 2-3 days

Bangalore

7. Nandi Hills (61 km)

A budget vacation and a visit to vineyard is possible together! Spend a day at a sprawling 400 acres vineyard and know about the history and art of winemaking and of course taste some as well. With its close proximity to Bangalore, it is perfect for a short trip! You can visit the vineyard for INR 1000 per person (INR 850 on weekdays) inclusive of a vineyard tour, lunch and wine tasting.

How to reach: A round trip by road can easily managed in INR 1000.
Hotel tariff: Although it is perfect for a day trip, if you wish to stay overnight you can get a decent accommodation for about INR 1000.

8. Yercaud (228 km)
