Bullet Baba’s Temple

Better known as Bullet Baba’s Temple, the idol is a 350cc Royal Enfield in this temple near the city of Jodhpur. Known to bless its devotees with safe journeys, the temple was built to commemorate the bike of Om Banna, a resident who died here over 20 years ago in an accident while riding this bike. It is believed that even though the authorities seized the bike it would magically appear in different places everyday, leading people to believe it has super natural powers.

The bhog at this temple located amidst Kolkata’s very own Chinatown consists of food such as noodles, chopsuey, fried rice and Chinese vegetable dishes among many more.

Temple for Possessed Souls

Believed to be the “temple of the possessed”, visit Mehandipur Balaji Temple if you don’t already believe in evil spirits. Once you enter the temple area, you will come across many men and women screaming and shouting. Do not panic! They are believed to be possessed by an evil spirit and the priests here perform a pooja to cleanse their souls. At the end of the rituals, you find the same people calm and poised. A visit here is not meant for the weak hearted.

Aeroplane Gurdwara

Better known as the “hawai jahaz gurdwara”, the Shaheed Baba Nihal Singh Gurudwara is located in a village very close to the city of Jalandhar, Punjab. Though it seems like any normal gurdwara on the outside, what is bound to catch your attention are the many shops selling toy models of various international airlines. It is believed that if you were to offer a model of the aircraft you would like to fly in order to leave the country, you will surely get a visa and chance to visit or move to that country.

The Disappearing Temple

Also known as the disappearing temple, the Stambheshwar Mahadev is one of the many unique temples in India located along the coast of Gujarat. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is known to be unique as it can only be visited during low tide. This is because the temple completely submerges under water during high tide and disappears.

The Karni Mata Temple is known to house approximately 20 thousand black rats known as “kabbas”. People flock to this temple from far and wide to pay their respects to these rats. Eating food that has been nibbled on by these rats is considered to be auspicious. Also, amidst all the black rats if you are to spot a white one, it is believed that you will have good luck for life.

Located in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, this temple houses nine naturally occurring flames or jyotis that are said to burn endlessly. Considered to be the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga, many studies have been conducted in order to understand the science behind these constantly burning flames with none of them leading to any definite reasoning.

Located in Channapatna, Karnataka this unique temple is dedicated to man’s best friend, with dogs sculptures for idols. The people of this town believe that it is necessary for every human to imbibe qualities such as loyalty and fighting against wrong doings which prevail in dogs. Praying at this temple ensures that these qualities also translate into the person who is praying.
