Bishnupur is a town with a rich heritage. Each and every terracotta temple in this region bespeak of excellent craftsmanship and intricate carvings. The terracotta tiles show many scenes from the Mahabharata. Apart from temples, the place is also famous for terracotta pottery and other artifacts. The famous Baluchari sarees depicting scenes from the Mahabharata on the border and pallu, are also created here. If you choose to travel here on a weekend around Durga Puja your eyes are in for a treat. A very simple city, stay options will be average and can be booked on arrival.

A beautiful town of tree lined pristine beaches, Digha is situated at a distance of about 145 km from Kolkata. Along with the amazing beaches that are great for swimming and watersports, the place also offers some of the best preparations of seafood. Enjoy a calm sunset at the Udaipur Beach here or be fascinated by the plethora of fish you spot in the Marine Aquarium and Research Centre in the heart of the city. This city houses India’s second largest bird sanctuary, the Raiganj Bird Sanctuary. Also called the Kulik Sanctuary, this place is home to more than 160 species of birds. Wake up to the pleasant chirping of birds and take a stroll along the Kulik river flowing right beside the sanctuary. The forest floors are covered with dry deciduous leaves so one has to be very careful. A single match can cause havoc. On the whole, this is a very laid back place, perfect for city dwellers who are looking for a break from the busy city life over the weekend. A nice nature retreat is your best stay option.

Kalimpong is an extremely popular and scenic tourist destination in West Bengal.
