This little town of temples is home to a plethora of architectural, religious and cultural wonders. One of the most important temples in India, the Somnath temple, holds much mythological and religious significance.
Want to know a little more about this glorious temple, read on.

History and Architecture
Enshrining the revered Jyotirlinga, the Somnath temple is one of the most important Shiva temples in India. The imposing temple is constructed in the Chalukya style with a height of about 155 ft. The beautiful Jyotirlinga adorned with colourful flowers and ornamented with silver and gold is a breathtaking experience.

Believed to be built in gold by the God of Moon, the temple was then renovated with silver by Ravana. Lord Krishna then renovated it with wood and finally one of the Pandavas, Bhima, built it with stones. The temple has witnessed numerous invasions by foreign rulers yet the glory of the temple remains in all its splendour.
The rhythmic ringing of bells, melodious beating of drums and the harmony of Shiva Bhajans (hymns) greet you during the aarti at the temple. Soaked in peace and tranquility, the temple will completely rejuvenate your being.

Aarti
Aarti or prayer meetings take place in the morning during sunrise and before sunset in the evening. There are certain rules and regulations mentioned outside the temple which need to be followed during the prayer meetings.

Light and Sound show
