Holding out a handful of activities for the wandering traveller, Bikaner makes for a fun filled and action packed time, giving you ample opportunity to engage in a lot of different things when here. Pull up your socks and get ready for all the activities that await you in this city:

  • Sightseeing

An intriguing mix of grand monuments and small shops, regal portraits of rulers and photographs of a humble society, wide roads and narrow lanes and a plethora of other contraries, Bikaner is walk into the past in the company of modern development. No trip to the place is complete without a visit to its iconic monuments like Junagarh Fort and Lallgarh Palace, but you can also check out National Camel Research Centre for a different experience. Top of this historic architecture with a slice of the divine (read Jain Temple Bhandasar) and you have almost all you need.

  • Camel Safari

An important centre to take safaris on the Ship of the Desert (Camels if you please), Bikaner serves as the gateway to exciting camel safaris. You can chose from a short safari to the villages which are located on the outskirts of the city. These safaris cost between INR 700 and INR 900 per person, depending upon their duration.

You can also opt for longer safaris to exotic places like
Pokaran and Bikaner. These safaris last around 10 days, you pitch tents in the deserts in the night or simply stay in humble homes of welcoming villagers. Evenings often see entertaining folk art performances by local artists and sleeping under the blanket of stars in the nights has a pleasure of it own. However, if you suffer from back problems, the longer safaris are not recommended as these rides can aggravate your medical condition. Get in touch with local tour operators or your hotel Travel Desk to get reservations for the same. You can also get in touch with Thar Camel Safari (http://www.tharcamelsafari.com/) to grab a good deal.

  • Shopping

No rendezvous with Bikaner is complete without a casual stroll down the animated markets of this city. Shop for colourfully embellished leather jootis and mojris, pick up a nice leather wallet or a colourful knick knack in lacquer work, or get a new sheep wool comforter for your bed back home! The markets in Bikaner have a unique flavour of their own, something which is surely going to excite you. It is a good idea to head to Mahatma Gandhi Road and stroll through the busiest market in the Camel Country, Bikaner. Get set for steal deals and great bargains!
