If you happen to be a history buff, Amritsar has a lot to offer you. The city restores the culture and history of the Sikh religion and you can discover many interesting facts about the people and place here. Here are a couple of places that you must visit to gather knowledge about the place:

  • Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum

    A history buff or not, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum is a wonderful place to visit on your trip to Amritsar. The museum was earlier the summer palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, that has been now turned into a marvelous museum. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was called the Lion of Punjab because of his audacity. He is a prominent figure in the history of India.
    The museum premise is surrounded by a grand garden that is named
    Ram Bagh, after the great Guru Ram Dass. This summer palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh is now being officially preserved under the Punjab Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act,1964. It was converted into a Museum during the 400th year celebrations of Amritsar City.
    A huge number of visitors and tourists today visit this museum to see the timeless antiquities and art objects of the 18th and 19th century. The museum exhibits many objects related to the life of
    Maharaja Ranjit Singh like his arms and armour, paintings and centuries old coins and manuscripts. The rich collection of weapons and ammunitions are another thing in the museum that portrays the dauntless attitude of the warriors of Punjab. One of the most significant things in the museum is the parwana of Maharaja Ranjit Singh gifted to the Raja of Kapurthala holding the seal of Ranjit Singh.

    Timings: The museum remains closed on Monday. On other days it is open from 10am to 5pm.

  • The Central Sikh Museum of Amritsar

    The Central Sikh Museum is situated inside the complex of Golden Temple in Amritsar. It was established in the year 1958 and is maintained by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee of Punjab.
    Being a religious museum it mostly displays paintings of S
    ikh gurus, saints, Sikh warriors and other prominent Sikhleaders who have contributed to the enrichment of Sikh religion. The brilliant collection of ancient coins, arms, ammunitions and manuscripts are also some things that will interest you. It is a great place for both history buffs and devotees.
    Photography is otherwise prohibited inside the museum but if you take prior permission you may have all the clicks you want.

    Timings: Open on all days.
    Entry fee: Nil
