Answer: If you're travelling to a city, you sure don't want to be holed up all day in your hotel room when so much beauty awaits you! Once you reach Jammu, you would be dying to start on that exciting itinerary of yours. You're probably wondering how to get around the city, but your dilemma ends here. Here's a peek into the various means of transport you can opt for while in Jammu:

  • Taxis

The most comfortable and reliable way to travel within the city is to perhaps hire a taxi. These you can easily find at the railway station and bus-stands, and mostly have a fixed rate for different routes. If you're planning a trip to Katra or Patnitop, these would be your knights in shining armour. A trip from the railway station to the main city usually costs around INR 200.

  • Jeeps

Add that little wild edge to your trip with these jeeps on hire. You can opt for these for travelling short distances within the city and even strike a deal with the operator for the entire day. One of the most popular option among tourists, these jeeps move with utmost ease on the shifting planes of Jammu. Jeeps for a day usually cost you around INR 500 and you could even hire one to drive yourself.

  • Minibuses

Run by the tourist department of Jammu, these minibuses ply within the city and take you from one tourist spot to another. They ply on fixed routes, so make sure to check their route maps and timings from the tourist reception centre at Vir Marg.

  • Autorickshaws

For most Indians, auto rickshaws are a common, pocket-friendly and fast way to get around any city. Jammu is no different in this regard and you'll find plenty of auto's willing to take you on board. There prices are quite negotiable, so be sure to bargain before you board the auto rickshaw!

With so many options, your itinerary is sure going to have lots of check-marks. Some of these taxi and auto drivers might even give some interesting local insights about the place. So be sure to leave your inhibitions behind and chat up!
