Answer: Once you get to a city, you sure don't want to be holed up in your hotel room when there are such amazing sights that await you. Want to know how to travel within Pahalgam? Here's a lowdown of the various ways to get around inside the city:

  • Walking

Fresh, exhilarating air and the clear, sunny sky will accompany you on your walks inside this delightful town. Get those comfy walking shoes out of hibernation and give your feet the free reign to roam around the city, best explored on foot, where you can decide your own leisurely pace according to your stamina. If you are a foreign national, make sure to carry your passport at all times. It is also a good idea to let the hotel staff know what direction you're heading out in and keep their numbers and address handy, in case you lose your way. Nights are quite secluded, and it is usually advisable to not walk too far from your hotel late in the evening.

  • Cabs

If you're running low on patience and want to get to a place faster, or you're simply not up for the walk, you can opt for the more conventional cabs here in Pahalgam. It's best to consult your hotel about the current rates and reliable taxi operators. Also, if you're coming in from Jammu or Srinagar in a cab, remember that you won't be able to use the same one for sightseeing. City regulations here don't allow cabs from Jammu and Srinagar to ply in and around Pahalgam.

  • Pony Ride

Moving around slow, steady in the fresh and open air but yet not walking. Wondering how? A pony ride will offer you the opportunity to experience the beauty of nature without being stuffed in a cab and yet not tire your feet too much. Avoid this if you have a back problem since it might not be one of the most comfortable of adventures. Ponies can be hired from the main market, Laripora and Aru Road area, at fixed and published rates, which might vary during peak and off-peak tourist seasons.
