What are the different means of travel within Koh Samui?

  • Songthaew

    These little red pick-up trucks in Koh Samui are an interesting means of travel. With two wooden rows of seating at the back, they allow passengers to hop on and off from the back itself. Taking you to your destination, they can be found all over town. As interesting and fun they may be, the Songthaews may take a tad bit longer to reach your desired stop. Stopping at regular intervals to pick up more customers, they take their own sweet time. Incase you are in a hurry to reach somewhere, it is best to take an alternative transport. Usually charging THB 30 - 60 per person, depending on the distance, the Songthaews offer you an authentic experience of travelling the way locals do.

  • Motorbikes

    One of the most common ways of exploring Koh Samui is by renting a motorbike. Giving you the freedom to travel as and when you please, these motorbikes are your own little chariots. Available on rent for as low as THB 250 per day, travelling has never been easier. From automatic to semi automatic geared motorbikes, you can choose the model from the various options available. It is advisable to hire a bike from trusted and authorised operators situated all over the city. Ask for a registration copy and an authorised certificate from the motorbike operator. It would also be a good decision to bargain a little before you settle on the price, you may never know the deal you crack.
    If you are not familiar with roads of Koh Samui, it is advisable to familiarise yourself a little with narrow, slippery roads before setting out. Precaution is better than cure lest you land up in an unpleasant situation.

    There are also motorbike taxis available in some parts town. With an expert rider riding the bike, there’s nothing you need to worry about. Sit tight while the expert navigates through hidden lanes and long traffic snarls. You can identify a motorbike taxi by the coloured and numbered vests of the rider. Costing as low as THB 10, this is an extremely fast and economical means of transport.

  • Car

    Renting a car in this beachtown gives you the opportunity of travelling in comfort and luxury at your own pace. Perfect for a large group of people, you can drive to the outskirts of the town or explore the rustic hills and mountains.
    Costing upto THB 800 per day depending on the condition and make of the vehicle, it is fairly easy to move around in a rented car. It is suggested to be well versed with the roads of Koh Samui before you set out. As the road conditions aren’t the best for first time drivers. Slippery either because of the sand or because of the water, it is essential that you be extremely careful while traversing through unknown routes.

  • Bicycle

    Fun, exciting and thrilling. Bicycles are one of the most popular ways of getting around. Bikes can be rented for about THB 80 a day. Perfect for people who want to discover nature’s hidden spots and uncharted trails can head out on these handy vehicles. Slowly gaining popularity as a cheap mode of transport and extremely rejuvenating, hop on to a bike and set out. There is no better way to discover Koh Samui but on these little elevated seats giving you a different picture of the world passing by.
