What are the different modes to travel within Kathmandu?

0 people found this answer useful Useful ?Yes

Kathmandu is a city that you can explore on foot but why do you want to give your feet all the pain when your pocket can share some.
A sure shot tip that one should remember if he/she arrives in the city by air is that he/she should pick up a free Kathmandu Valley map at the airport. You will not see street names except for the major roads like Tri Devi and the Ring Road that loop around the city. So, for the others, get a map and make your life easier.

  • Rickshaws and Taxis

Rickshaws and taxis are available at every corner of the city. However, it is imperative that you bring out the bargainer in you for negotiating on the fares. If one driver does not agree, then show them that you are the boss and ask another driver in front of him. Generally the fares go up after its dark or when you are in a less busy part of the city but one should still not leave behind the instincts of haggling over the fares. It is possible to hire a taxi for 300 NPR one-way to
Patan and 800 to 1,200 NPR to Bhaktapur from Thamel or the airport.

  • Bus

There are also buses that available for longer trips within the valley, ie
Patan, Bakhtapur, Boudha, etc. that can be used for trips in & around around town. There are Blue buses & green buses that constantly drive in circles around the beautiful city on the Ring Road for 15 to 20 NPR depending on the distance. Having a bus trip with the locals can be a cherishable experience as you get to go deep into the roots of the city. Now what you need to know is that generally all the buses are very old and rough so opt for a taxi or rickshaw if you are a delicate darling.

Armed with the above information, get set for a trip around Kathmandu!
