Age old wisdom will tell you that the almighty is within you and the best way to communicate with divinity is through a communication with your inner self. But if you want a more tangible communion with your lord, you need to take time off your regular schedule and plan a trip to the holy city of Mathura. But how? Take a look at the different ways to reach Mathura and plan that long overdue trip now:

  • By Air

If time is a constraint but you have a good budget to spare, hop on to a flight and reach Mathura is almost no time. Though the nearest airport to Mathura is at Agra, 60 km away, it isn’t considered to be a great option ad flights here are very limited. A better bet for you would be to take a flight, domestic or international, till the Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi, which is a mere 150 km away from Mathura by road. Being the capital city of the country, it is well connected to all major cities of India, and the world. You can then opt to hire a cab from the airport (which should cost you around INR 4000), drive down yourself, hop on to the various buses or take a train till Mathura. A road journey to Mathura from Delhi typically takes around 3 hours.

  • By Rail

For the budget travellers and those who love the great Indian railways, Mathura is blessed with a railway station of its own. Sway with the gentle rhythms of the rail, while you read you favourite book or just simply look out the window at the beautiful view. With train connectivity with all major cities across India, including Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, etc, this option can be quite perfect, especially if you decide to book in advance.

  • By Road

If you love to set the pace of your own travel, pick up those car keys and head out for a road trip to Mathura. The city is well connected to major cities like Delhi, Agra, Faizabad and Allahabad through proper highways, so driving to Mathura can be quite a pleasure. If you love the roads but don’t like driving too much, opt for a bus ride to Mathura. The UP State Transport Corporation has several government-run buses which ply quite regularly between Mathura and major cities in U.P. as well as Delhi. There are also several private operators that ply luxury coaches to and from Mathura for that added element of comfort for your journey.

With these details sorted, all you need to do is pack your bags, chalk up an exciting itinerary and just get, set, going. Needless to say, don’t forget to click away with those jazzy cameras!
