Wondering how to reach this beautiful hill station? Well, even though Munnar does not have its own Airport or a railway station, it is well connected by road. Here are the options available for you on how to reach Munnar.

  • Air
The nearest airport is Nedumbassery International Airport in Cochin, which is around 110 kilometres from Munnar. It'll take you around four hours to reach Munnar from the airport by road. Taxi service is available at the airport and would cost you around INR 3000. Buses too are available at the airport offering pocket friendly travel to Munnar. But they are not direct, you will have to change the bus at Angamaly and Ernakulam Depot.

  • Rail
Munnar doesn't have its own railway station but there are many near to the hill station. Some of the stations are Theni (Tamil Nadu) which is about 60 km away, Aluva about 110 km away, Angamaly is nearly 120 km away, Ernakulam is 130 km and Madurai is 135 km. You can hire a cab at Angamaly which costs around INR 2500, you can also take a bus from any of the above mentioned stations.

  • Bus
This in one of the best way to get to Munnar. Both state government and private transport are available. From Kochi it takes around four hours, buses leave between 6 am to 6 pm. If you are coming by flight from Cochin airport then the nearest bus station is Aluva, it takes around seven hours from there to Munnar. You can also take buses from Kottayam, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trivandrum or Pollachi. Ticket price is around INR 70 one-way for a government-operated bus, up to INR 150 for a privately operated bus.

The drive to Munnar itself is an experience in itself. It would be a good option to take a cab to Munnar to enjoy the ride and save time. A cab would cost you around INR 3000.
