So, have you already starting packing and waiting eagerly to set foot on the wonderful hilly terrains of Ooty? Wait a bit, friends. Do have a look at the various modes of transport available for you to reach Ooty.

  • By Air
Ooty does not have a civilian airport of its own. The nearest airport is the Coimbatore International Airport, which is about 105 km away from Ooty and connects most major cities in India and many international ones to this place.
You can hire a taxi from Coimbatore to Ooty for a pre-decided fare of INR 2500.
The government is also mulling plans to start a helicopter service to ferry passengers from this airport to Ooty.

  • By Train
The Uthagamandalam Railway Station is the one that serves train services for Ooty. However, the most preferred way to reach here is the famous Nilgiri Mountain Railway, one of the oldest mountain railways of India. UNESCO declared it as a World Heritage Site in 2005. The journey will present you with beautiful views of the valleys, the forests and the waterfalls. The train begins its journey at around 7.30 in the morning towards Ooty from Mettupalayam. Prior booking for ticket is advisable.
Also there runs Nilgiri Express between Mettupalayam and Chennai.

  • By Road
Ooty is well-connected to most cities of South India by bus services. Major cities such as Chennai, Bangalore, Mysore, Kanyakumari, etc are aptly connected to Ooty by a whole range of bus services.
Also there are several tourist buses plying in these routes. You can even avail ooty packages through them. They normally charge INR 4 for a kilometre.
