Answer: Does planning a trip seem too much of a task to you? Can't figure out how to reach your destination, and more importantly, how to work out a budget keeping travel costs in mind? Here's a lowdown of how to reach Pahalgam, whatever be your budget or time constraint:

  • By Air
Can't wait to get to Pahalgam and definitely don't want to spend too much time travelling? Hop onto a flight and reach this paradise on earth in a jiffy. The nearest airport to Pahalgam is Srinagar, about 90 km away. Depending on the weather conditions, the number of flights that come in at Srinagar can be quite variable. The airport is well connected by flights to cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jammu, Leh and Mumbai. Flight operators like IndiGo, Go Air, SpiceJet and Air India have frequent flights from these cities to Srinagar. From the airport, you could opt for either a bus ride to Pahalgam or hire a taxi. The bus journey will take you close to 3 hrs, though it will cost you around INR 100, much less than the taxi fare. There are luxury buses also available that ply between the airport and Pahalgam. A taxi would cost you around INR 2000 from the airport and will take you around 2.5 hrs to reach Pahalgam.

  • By Rail
Sway with the slow rhythmic movements of the train, while you sleep your way through the journey. The nearest railhead to Pahalgam is the Jammu Tawi railway station, about 275 km from the centre of the city. Frequent trains from Delhi, Pune, Varanasi, Kolkata and Chennai arrive at this station, and is the cheaper alternative to air travel. It would take you nearly 8 hrs to cover the distance between the railway station and Pahalgam by road, either by taxi or bus. You can buy bus tickets from Raghunath Bazaar in Jammu, at the J&K Government Tourist Reception Centre. Or if you want a more independent, private journey, you could hire a taxi from outside the station itself.

  • By Road
Be a total roadie and put on your music for this scenic journey to Pahalgam. The JKTDC runs frequent buses between Srinagar and Pahalgam, which take close to 3 hrs to cover a distance of about 90 km. From Delhi, Pahalgam is around 820 km and will take you over 15 hrs to cover this route via NH 71 and NH 1A. Depending on the time of the year you choose for your trip, roads may or may not be too accessible due to snow. So it would be advisable to check with your hotel in Pahalgam regarding the status of the roads before beginning your journey.

Make sure you book your flights, trains and buses in advance to avoid any last minute glitches. Are you dreaming about your vacation already?
