Wondering how to reach this beautiful hill station? Well, even though Palampur does not have its own Airport or a railway station, it is well connected by road. Here are the options available for you to reach the town.

  • Air
The nearest airport is Gaggal (Kangra) Airport which is around 40 kilometres from Palampur. Taxis are available from Gaggal to Palampur with a fare of about INR 750. Gaggal is a domestic airport well connected to Delhi and Mumbai. The nearest international airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, which is 540 km away. Tourist taxi charge between INR 3000 to INR 10000 from any of the above mentioned airports to Palampur.

  • Rail
The nearest railway station is at Maranda, which is 2 kilometres from Palampur and on the narrow-gauge line between Pathankot and Jogindernagar. Nearest broad-gauge line station is Pathankot which is 112 kilometres from the town. These stations are connected to other major railway stations in India. You can either take a taxi or a bus from these stations to Palampur.

  • Road
Buses are the best way to reach Palampur as the state owned public transport regular bus services are available from the city to major cities like Mandi, Pathankot and Dharmshala and vice versa. Both a/c and normal buses ply between the cities frequently. Public bus fare is less than INR 2 per kilometre and the main bus station is located just a kilometre south of the main Bazaar. Major cities including Delhi and Chandigarh are also well connected via bus and air conditioned bus service runs from Delhi to Palampur by the Himachal Roadways.Travelers can also make use of taxis to travel but they will turn out to be quite expensive.

Even though Palampur is well connected, going via Himachal Roadway bus service seems to be the best way which offers comfortable journey and is also light on the pocket.
