Answer: Travelling to a city, especially if you're going for a holiday, can be a little adventure on its own. Depending on how much you're willing to spend and how much time you have on your hands, there are various ways to reach Ranikhet, without much ado. You can plan your trip with the following means to travel to Ranikhet:

  • By Air

Impatient for your holiday to actually start and can't wait to get to Ranikhet? Shell out some cash and hop onto an airplane to reach Ranikhet in no time. The nearest airport to Ranikhet is at Pantnagar, just about 115 km away. Kingfisher Airlines flies occasional flights between Delhi and Pantnagar, depending on whether the climate allows for it. Once you reach Pantnagar, you can opt for a cab to Ranikhet, which would take you close to 2 hrs to cover the picturesque drive up the hills. A cab would roughly cost you INR 3000 for a one-way trip to Ranikhet.
    If you're an
international traveller, the nearest airport for you would be the Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi, about 350 km and 8 to 10 hrs away by road from Ranikhet.

  • By Rail

If ‘toot-toot' is music to your ears and you love swaying a little while you travel, trains are the the ideal option for you, besides of course being cheaper than air travel. The nearest railway station to Ranikhet is the one at Kathgodam, just 80 km away. Trains from Delhi, Jammu, Howrah, Dehradun, Kanpur, etc stop at Kathgodam, making it quite accessible to travellers. The journey from Kathgodam to Ranikhet would take you about 1 and a half hours, a good time to catch up on your nap or sigh at beauty of the mountains that trail along the way. You can opt for a pre-paid taxi from the station, which would cost you around INR 1500. If you want to save even more on travel, you could opt for state-run buses from the Kathgodam Bus Stand, 3 km away from the railway station. These buses usually take about 4 hrs to cover the distance to Ranikhet.

  • By Road

Roll down those windows and let the cool breeze shock your senses. If a roadtrip is what excites you, reaching Ranikhet by road is never a difficult task. This scenic hill-station is just 350 km from Delhi, easily coverable in 8 to 10 hrs if you or your driver is driving. If you are travelling to Ranikhet from Nainital or Almora, there are several state-run buses and coaches that operate daily and fit neatly into your pockets too. Depending on the distance, these buses usually take close to 2 hrs to reach Ranikhet.

Feeling all sorted and ready to get, set, go? Get packing and start dreaming about the trip of a lifetime!
