Rishikesh is a revered pilgrim spot since times immemorial. Blessed by Lord Shiva himself, this place is bestowed with enticing natural beauty, shelters ancient temples with each one unfolding a tale of its own. The following are some of the famous temples in Rishikesh:

  • Neelkanth Mahadev
    Neelkanth Mahadev is a revered and sacred shrine of Lord Shiva. The temple is ancient and situated at an altitude of 1675 m on a hill above the Swarg Ashram overlooking the Nar Narayan mountain ranges. The temple is said to be built after a great mythological episode when Lord Shiva drank the venom that oozed out of the ocean during ‘Samudra Manthan’. This caused Lord Shiva’s throat to turn blue and thus the name Neelkanth. This holy shrine of the Neelkanth Mahadev is now visited by tourists throughout the year.

  • Bharat Mandir
    Bharat Mandir is settled half a kilometer away from Triveni Ghat in the heart of the city. Enshrined inside the temple is the pious idol of Lord Vishnu. This ancient temple is visited by many devotees seeking blessings of the the divine each year.

  • Shri Trimbakeshwar Temple
    The abode of the ‘three eyed lord’, Shri Trimbakeshwar Temple is set overlooking the majestic Himalayas. This beautiful temple holds many historical facts besides the ancient idols and carvings all around the temple. The temple has been recently excavated and many age old statues, pottery and coins etc were discovered. It is an ideal place for both pilgrims and history buffs.

  • Swarg Niwas Temple
    A magnificent thirteen storied temple, Swarg Niwas temple is brilliantly architectured with each floor enshrined with different Hindu deities. The temple is coated orange which is a sacred color of Hinduism. The top of the tower offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the of the Ganges and the Rishikesh valley.
