Come February, Surajkund International Craft Mela attracts lovers of arts and crafts from all over the world who would love to witness the colorful traditional craft festival of India. This annual fair is held during the spring season from February 1 to February 15th in the backdrop of Surajkund Lake in Faridabad, one of the famous cities of Haryana. Craftsmen from all parts of the country are given an equal opportunity to participate in this annual celebration which represents the unique diversity of Indian traditions and culture. The fair is held with a different theme every year which is specific to an Indian State.

The 29th Surajkund International Craft Mela 2015 promises a lot of fun, frolic, entertainment and exclusive endless shopping experience. The fairgrounds will give you a vibrant vibe Chhattisgarh's culture, folk dances, handicrafts and more as it is the selected theme state for this year, while Lebanon is the partner nation.

Artists and Events

Spread over 40 acres, the fairground houses several work huts that host craftspersons and weavers. Expect to see the finest handlooms and handicrafts collection as more than 400 skilled artisans from all over the country display the rich crafts tradition of India in a typical rural setting. The craftspersons from SAARC Nations will also participate in the Surajkund Crafts Mela. You will get exposed to some great talents involved in paintings, wood stock, textiles, pottery, ivory work, terracotta, stone-work, etc.

You can also try and tap your feet along with the enthralling folk dancers from across the country or rejoice the sight of colourful performances by dance troupes in this two-week festival. Various quizzes and musical evenings are held in fan shaped open-air-theater name 'Natyashala' throughout the fortnight. Also, the mela celebrates the rhythms of folk theatre.

Surajkund Craft Mela serves as paradise for shoppers as you can find the finest of products from every state at amazing prices. Shop for the famous phulkari of Punjab, the Banjara and Banni embroidery of Gujarat and Rajasthan, lace and crochet from Goa, the Suzni of Kashmir and Mirror encasing work along with the traditional chikan work of Lucknow and no wonder you will buy something or the other from these famous cities of India. You will also find oxidized jewellery, sea shell decorations, folk motifs on terracotta forms, metal and cane-ware, agate stone work, delicate gold work and chunky silver jewellery, etc.

Gastronomic Experience

The Mela gives you an opportunity to pamper your taste buds by indulging in authentic flavours of rich Indian cuisines from different states. Special stalls are organized where patrons are introduced to the traditional foods and sweets of the theme state of the year. This year, there will also be a food court serving delicacies from the Chhattisgarh cuisine.

Some of the popular food traditions from Punjab come at the Punjabi 'Rasoi' and South Indian delicacies come in at the South Indian Section in the fair. The place, full of food stalls from participating states and countries, indulges lots of food lovers.

How to reach
Surajkund lies in the Faridabad district of Haryana which is situated at just 8 kms from the South Delhi.
By Road: Surajkund is well-connected to Delhi, Gurgaon and Faridabad district headquarter towns by metalled road and can be reached by car or tourist taxis.
By Air: Surajkund Complex is at a 35-minute drive from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is about 25 km from Palam Airport.
By Rail: Delhi is the nearest Railway junction. Faridabad and Gurgaon are both linked to Delhi via Railway lines. From each of these stations, you can travel to Surajkund by car/cab/tourist coach.
By Metro: Metro services are also available from Central Secretariat to Badarpur via Sarita Vihar and Mohan Estate. Badarpur locality is close to the interstate border between the city of Faridabad and Delhi.
