Friends can be priceless when it comes to trips, especially when you're travelling to a new destination. If you're worried about what to expect on a trip to Ranikhet and can't always tag your friends along, here are a few tips and guidelines to steer you clear from the path of trouble. Keep these in mind and you're all good to go:

  • Driving

If you're taking your own car to Ranikhet, make sure it's fully serviced and has good tyres that don't skid. Driving can be tricky on narrow, snaking roads and the last thing you want to do is be stranded on the street. Driving in this hilly region requires special skills to tackle the sharp turns and steep roads, so brushing up on your driving or hiring an experienced driver might be a good plan.

  • Clothing

Depending on when you travel to Ranikhet, make sure you carry ample warm clothes accordingly. For example, if you travel during December, be certain to pack that long, woolly overcoat and some sturdy boots. Also carry good walking shoes for comfortable treks and walks in and around Ranikhet.

  • Reservations

It is advisable to make all air, rail and hotel bookings well in advance to avoid any last minute glitches. It would also be a good idea to reconfirm your hotel reservation a couple of days before your trip so as to leave no scope for miscommunication.

  • Cash

It is recommended that you travel light in terms of cash and be freed from any concerns about security. Ranikhet has 2 ATMs in the main hill-station area, so withdrawing cash, as and when you need it, should not be a hassle.

  • General Rules

Each city has its own government and own set of rules. As a responsible traveller, it would be a good idea to keep these rules in mind while you enjoy your holiday in Ranikhet. One of the few places which are clean and pristine, travellers are requested to consciously keep the general cleanliness of the place intact.

So now, all you're left to do is pack and leave, for a holiday of a lifetime. The hills beckon!
