The Garhwali Himalayas are famously known as the "abode of Gods", for being home to so many myths and legends, and their subsequent shrines. But this hilly terrain is quite a favourite among amateur and skilled trekkers. Surrounded by surreal beauty and the rocky terrain, a trek here will test you for your sheer strength of body and mind. Some of the popular trek routes from Kedarnath are:

  • Gaurikund to Kedarnath

This trek route is quite naturally popular among the devout, who weather extreme temperatures and a steep climb to prove the extent of their devotion. But this 14 km trek is also popular among trekkers, who flock the region in plenty. This trek usually takes about 6 to 8 hrs.

  • Gaurikund to Uttarkashi

There are several treks that originate from the more popular base of Gaurikund, this being one of them. An 8-day trek, this trek route is meant for people with some serious sense of adventure and thrill. This also includes camping, where you can experience the unparalleled, raw beauty of nature.

There are several treks originating from Delhi and Rishikesh that end at Kedarnath. For these, there are lots of tour operators in Delhi and Rishikesh who can be contacted. Be sure to check the licenses of these tour operators to ensure your safety. Several independent groups also undertake trekking tours, but these are mostly for people who have some basic knowledge and skills in trekking. Needless to say, a proper trekking outfit and gear is an absolute must for trekking in the Kedarnath region.
There are small roadside-side stalls and
dhabas at various points along the way, which offer basic snacks, biscuits, maggi, ideal for you to stop, rest and boost your energy for the rest of your trek. It would be recommended to carry some light food like biscuits, etc. and water and essential medicines in case of an emergency. Keep these few pointers in mind and you're all ready to get, set, go!
