Festivals form the spirit of Indian culture, and equally so in case of Kozhikode. Boasting of an art-driven culture, Kozhikode celebrates certain festivals with great fanfare. Let us have a look.

  • Malabar Mahotsavam
    This cultural festival is organized by Kozhikode District Tourism Promotion Council once every year in the month of January. The festival had its inception in 1992 and is held for 5 days between January 13 to January 17.
    The festival aims to bring alive the cultural heritage of Kerala through the agency of traditional and folk arts, classical music and dance, drama, etc. Well-known scholars and artists from various domains are known to participate in this hugely famous festival.

  • Jalotsavam
    As part of Onam festival, traditionally the biggest festival in Kerala, Jalotsavam festivals constitutes of 3 water-fiestas at Korapuzha, Moorad and Pongilodippara. The water-sports organized by the local sports clubs are a big hit with the locals and tourists alike. Chundanvalloms or snake boats are a major highlight of these sports events.

  • Shivarathri Utsavam
    This festival is celebrated in honour of Lord Ganapathy, the elephant-headed son of God Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. The festival is organized annually at Thiruvangoor Sri Mahaganapathy temple, located about 18 km from Kozhikode. The festival is grandly celebrated for a span of two days in the month of October.
