The Venice of the East, Srinagar is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful spots in the world, oh well, that you knew already! So then, do you want to know something that you can do while on a trip to the paradise on Earth? Not see. Do. If you are game for it, then read on.

  • See the Himalayan Hills

Being so close to the Himalayan Range, it would be an insult to the peaks if you do not pay a visit to them. There are a plethora of operators who organise excursions to the Himalayan hills which can be a delight to anybody. You love snow caped mountains, well that is what you get here. You want natural beauty at its best, that is what you get here. You think it is very cheap, hey you cannot get everything in one go. The excursions organised by the operators vary in their price range. There is a lot of opportunity to haggle over the prices.

However, there are the same tours are also organised by
Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) which can be a good option to consider. Their prices are generally fixed and vary according to the season.

The general price range for such excursion can start from INR 1000 and can go upto a couple of grand depending on how much do you want to explore.

  • Shikara Ride

Hop on for a ride on the most intriguing part of the travel experience when in Srinagar, Shikara in the Dal Lake. You must have seen them in several of the movies, now it's the time to explore them for yourself. Now what is important here is to haggle over prices and keep on doing that till the time you get what you want. It becomes all the more important if you are visiting in the off season. The Shikara wallahs charge you around INR 150 in the off season and around INR 500 in the peak season.

If you want a better view and a peaceful ride in an area where there are less tourists, you should walk up a fair bit of distance till you can see the fountain in the lake and then you can ask any
Shikara wallah to take you for a ride to the fountain. It will cost you around INR 300 in the off season and around INR 600 in the peak season.

  • Village and Vegetable Market

While you are on a ride in the Dal lake, you should always ask for or explore the village in the lake. You get a chance to explore with the locals there and also hear stories of the history and the culture of the state. Interestingly, there is also a floating vegetable market which should not be missed at any cost. Hey, if you have always wondered to explore Bangkok's floating market, this is your chance to do that at national prices.

  • Explore Parihaspora, Dewar

On your way to Gulmarg, you should always stop to explore the ruins of the palaces of Kashmir's Buddhist and Hindu rulers along with Buddhist places of worship. If you are an explorer at heart, this is what Srinagar has to offer to you. You will enjoy it.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what all Srinagar has to offer, don't trust me? Visit there and you will see that for yourself! Enjoy!
