A few miles on either side of Bangalore stand some fascinating tourist attractions. If the explorer in you is seeking more that just a city tour,  you can end your trip on a perfect note by exploring these awe-inspiring locales:

  • Mysore

Some 146 kilometers to Bangalore’s southwest lies the picturesque city of Mysore. Cultural Capital of Karnataka, it’ll enfold you in a time warp, taking you back to the times of Royals of Mysore and their magnificent palaces. Lose yourself to a life that isn’t run of the mill at this once seat of the Wodeyar Maharajas. Vinayaka Mylari, Devaraja Market, Rail Museum, Karanji Lake Nature Park, Ayurveda Retreat Village and more, you’ll fall in love with Mysore.

A scenic drive of some 22 kilometers to the south of Bangalore will have you in the folds of Bannerghatta National Park, also known as the Bannerghatta Lion and Tiger Reserve. Fix a date with the wildest of all, as the reserve is home to white tigers, lions, Thamin deer, Himalayan black bear, panthers and more. And don’t forget to take a walk in the fairy tale setttings that the colourful world of butterflies have weaved in the Butterfly Park in the park. There’s a museum and a Wildlife Film Show that’s scheduled for weekends and public holidays. Drive in for an enriching experience between 9 am and 5 pm; don’t forget that it’s closed on Tuesdays.

  • Shivanasamudra Falls

Can you imagine nature at its playful best? Well, no need to imagine for here’s a sight that’ll have you privy to the wonder itself. Your heart will skip a beat or two (or maybe more), when you see the vastness of River Cauvery divided into two by the island town of Shivanasamudra. Climb up the watch tower to witness this miraculous occurrence as a roaring river dissects into Gaganachukki Falls and Bharachukki Falls. Rainbows, literally, ride the air here!

Those hungry for more out of this trip, a quick dekko at Kaivara cave temples, Skandgiri, Nandi Hills, Thottikallu Falls and the desert town of Talakad is a must. A quick tour of these awe inspiring places around Bangalore will lend that perfect finishing stroke to your itinerary.
