Srinagar is home to many age old temples and mosques. So, if you happen to visit this splendorous place, you must also go to these temples and mosques apart from the other beautiful places.


  • Shankaracharya Temple

    Shankaracharya temple, also known as
    Takht-e-Suleiman is located on the Shankaracharya hill at an altitude of 1100 ft. above surface level of the main city. As written the books of Kalhana, it was built by Raja Gopal Data in 371 B.C. This is Shiva temple, and apparently the oldest shrine in Kashmir. After the construction of stairs to the temple by the Dogra ruler,Maharaja Gulab Singh, the accessibility has become quite feasible.
    The temple, besides being a prominent religious place of Hindus, is also of great archaeological importance. The temple offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Srinagar city.

  • Khir Bhawani Temple

    Associated with the Hindu goddess Ragnya Devi, the Khir Bhawani Temple in the Srinagar district is an significant hindu shrine. An annual festival is held here on Jehst Ashtami (May-June) when Hindus visit the place in large numbers to offer prayers and seek the blessings of the deity.

  • Khanqah-e-Molla

    The shrine of
    Shah-e-Hamdan or Khanqah-e-Moula is one of the oldest muslim shrines in Srinagar. It is situated on the bank of the river Jhelum in the old city.

  • Jama Masjid

    Situated in the heart of the city, Jama Masjid is one of the oldest and the biggest mosques in Kashmir. The foundation of the mosque, an architectural wonder was laid by
    Sultan Sikandar in 1398 A.D. The complex of the mosque is huge enough to accommodate around thirty thousand people, at a time, coming to offer prayers to the Almighty.
