Adventure, adventure and more adventure. Ramnagar is full of fun activities. There’s fishing, water sports, angling and safaris. Try your hand at all these activities and make sure you make the most of your transit through Ramnagar. Let's check out important things to do and places to visit in Ramnagar.

  • Angling and Fishing

Flooded with Mahseer (a relatively large fish) and Gounch (cat fish), the rivers Kosi and Ramganga provide ample fishing and angling opportunities. The presence of fish in these waters also attracts migratory birds. You’ll find fishing enthusiasts from across the globe here between mid November and mid June. This is indeed the best time for fishing and angling. There are several tours operating on this rivers most of which work on catch and release basis. These tours help you spot the perfect place in the river for angling and expert guidance is always a blessing. Remember to carry your own equipment. You’ll also need prior permission from the Forest Department for angling. There are also some water sports here, if you are interested.

The cost to hire a guide is INR 1200 for a whole day, vehicle will cost around INR 3000 for a full day and the fishing permit is INR 200 for a rod per day.

  • Nature Walks

The serene and quiet ambience will definitely tempt you for a stroll around the place but unless you like adventures and surprises, get a tour guide to take you around. He’ll know the secret paths and routes that would introduce you with some of the most picturesque natural scenes. A walk along the river would be refreshing and something that will ease you off the tensions of the city you’ve escaped from.

A tour guide would charge about INR 200 for a day.

  • Jeep Rides and Safaris

An open jeep safari is the best way to explore the place. Whether you are travelling in a group or need a jeep to yourself, both options are available. Just speak to the hotel travel desk and they’ll guide you according to your needs. Fight the wind and stand through the ride. You’ll get to spot rare fauna and flora and some of the rarest species of birds and butterflies. The guide will stop the jeep occasionally and show you pug marks or get you to notice birds’ calling. It’s nothing less than an adventurous joyride.

A trip from Ramnagar to Corbett would cost about INR 3500 for a jeep.

Note that only 6 people including the driver and the guide are allowed at one time.

Canters are like open trucks (not as big) that can seat about 20 people at one go. The trip starts from Ramnagar or Dhangari Gate and takes you for a joyride across the widespread forest. Remember to carry your identity cards along. A canter is a bigger yet cheaper option for a safari. There are two safaris you can take in a day.

Morning: 6 am-11 am, 1 pm-4 pm

Charges: INR 1500 per person.

Plan your activities as per the number of days you wish to holiday. You could ask your hotel travel desk for instructions and help. Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes. Keep your hair pulled back for safaris and carry enough food and drinking water especially when you go fishing.
