Not only does the city of Bikaner have abundant natural beauty, it also has a handful of splendid attractions that deck the cityscape. Check out the following places and take home some splendid pictures and memories of the Camel Country:

  • Junagarh Fort (Bikaner Fort)

    One of the few forts in India which stands undefeated even today after 5 centuries of its construction, Junagarh Fort is a mesmerising structure. Built by Raja Rai Singh somewhere between 1571 and 1612, Junagarh Fort also has a beautiful museum within its precincts. The tours here are totally government run and if you don't understand hindi, its better to rent an audio guide in the language of your choice.

    Entry Fee: INR 20 for Indians, INR 100 for foreigners. Cameras extra.

  • Lalgarh Palace

    Former residence of the emperor of Bikaner, Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji, the Lalgarh Palace is opulence defined in stone. With lattice work balconies, beautifully carved ceilings and history locked away in every nook and cranny, the palace is a majestic sight which can charm anyone and everyone. Do check out the Laxmi Niwas Palace inside, its worth a thousand pictures.

  • Sadul Museum

    Have wildlife trophies decorating walls always fascinated you? Head to Sadul Museum to be mesmerised. Sprawling on the first floor of Lalgarh Palace, the place has interesting animal heads and other wildlife trophies of the mighty rulers of Bikaner on display. Apart from these, the Sadul Museum is also a great place to check out old photographs of Rajasthani royalty. Small place, will eat up about 45 minutes of your day.

    Entry Fee: Indians INR 10 per person, Foreign Nationals INR 20 per person.
    Timings: 10am to 5pm, Sunday closed.

  • Prachina Museum

    Nestled in a quiet corner of the Junagarh Fort, the Prachina Museum is worth a visit to get a taste of what true aristocracy means. Take a look at the china cups the Maharajas had tea in and see the finery which their queens once wore. From carpets to jewellery and photographs of royals, this place symbolises all the grandeur we associate with royalty and is worth a visit purely for the fascination factor it holds. There is also a henna artist who sits near the entrance to the museum, where you can get some beautiful Mehendi designs to adorn your hands!
