Since time immemorial, mountains have been considered as the dwelling places of gods in Hindu mythology. The breathtaking beauty of the landscape is blessed by the divine presence of deities whose blessings would bring you peace and prosperity.

  • Bhramri Temple
Popularly known as Kote-Ki-Mai temple or Bhramri Devi temple, it is located inside a ruined fort in Kausani. It is widely believed that Adi Guru Shankarachary spent a good deal of time here while on his way to Garhwal region. What really generated buzz about the temple is the fact that the goddess faces north while the devotees offer prayers from the south direction. During August a grand fair is organized known as Nanda Raj Jat in which the idol of Devi is decorated and a procession is taken out in the town. This is the best time to enjoy the local culture at its colourful best.

  • Pinnath
You can reach Pinnath by trekking 5 kms towards Gopalkot Peak, overlooking the upper portion of Kosi Valley. Dedicated to Lord Bhairon, it is a small conical structure. The walls are adorned by the figures of Rajahs. The arch forming the root of the portico has effigies of five Pandavas. The shrine has idols of Mahadeva and Devi and an annual fair is organized every october in their honour. This is the best time to see the local spirit and culture at its best.

These religious sites adds to the whole experience of the mountains. The sense of peace and relief slowly sinks into your being making you feel lighter. After all isn't it peace and solace we are looking for? Let your mind go blank and allow the blessing of the deities to take you from darkness to enlightenment.
