Can’t figure out how to reach this world-class beach destination? Let us help you out. Being just 16 kilometres from Trivandrum, reaching Kovalam will pose no problem. Here are your options.

  • By Air
The nearest airport is Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) about 15 kilometres from Kovalam. This airport is well connected to all the major Indian cities and even international ones like Singapore, Colombo and Gulf countries. Once you reach the airport, a taxi to Kovalam will cost you around INR 400 to INR 500. Yes, it’s a complete rip-off! Get on an auto rickshaw instead, which will charge you around INR 150 (not exactly fair, but much better than the taxi option). Don’t pay more than INR 170. Meters generally don’t work, so if the driver is adamantly refusing to lower his price, your best bet will be to look for another one.
Tip: Try to catch a running auto instead of the ones waiting outside the airport. You might get a better deal.

  • By Rail
Thampanoor railway station in Trivandrum is the nearest railway station to Kovalam, and is well linked by rail network to major cities across the country. Taxi fares to Kovalam are around INR 300. Again, auto-rickshaws will be a much cheaper option. If you like the rhythmic chugging of trains, choose this option. Though it is more time consuming, the scenic views outside the window more than make up for it.

  • By Road
Public and private transport is available to Kovalam from Trivandrum and neighbouring cities. And if you plan to come in your own vehicle, driving on these roads lines by a thick canopy of greens on both the sides is simply irresistible. There are many tourist luxury buses which run from many cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Madurai and Nagarcoil to Kovalam. And the bus fare from Trivandrum to Kovalam is just INR 10. Way, way cheaper than any auto-rickshaw or taxi. You can also rent a bike here. Driving on the highway is simply a pleasure. The old highway called MC road will take you into the hills. Two wheelers do not require filling the highway toll.

So now that you know your options, come to this idyllic beach destination and enthrall yourselves in the white sandy beaches, moonlit beach walks, mouth-watering cuisine and bone-melting Ayurvedic massages. You can also choose from these Kovalam tour packages and customize accordingly. Let the journey begin!
