Once you have researched your shortlisted destinations and selected your final choice, the first question that comes to your mind is ‘How can I reach my destination?’. To save you time and energy of going through different sites, we have compiled a detailed answer to the different options available to you, for getting inside the blue city.

  • By Air

Jodhpur airport is about 5 kilometres from the heart of the city, and is well connected to all the major Indian metropolitan cities through direct flights. Taking between 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on your starting destination and the chosen flight, this will obviously be the fastest, albeit a bit pricier way to reach Jodhpur as compared to other modes of travel. Once you reach the city, you can easily find a taxi (around INR 200) or an auto rickshaw (around INR 100) to take you to your hotel. We suggest you  try to walk a bit further and catch a running auto (instead of the ones lining outside the airport), as they will be cheaper and will also not have any connections with hotels/ restaurants for commission. The autos do not run according to the meter, so make sure you negotiate the prices before you hop on. A lot of hotels provide free pickup services too.

  • By Rail

An important division of the north-western zone of the
Indian Rail network, Jodhpur is extremely well connected to all the major Indian cities. For example, the Mandore Express leaves Delhi at 8:45 pm and reaches Jodhpur at 8:00 am, next morning (around INR 1000 for AC 2 tier), or the Suryanagari Express which departs from the Mumbai Bandra station at 6:45 pm and reaches Jodhpur station at 1:30 pm the next day. The station is conveniently close to major landmarks like the Mehrangarh Fort (4.3 kilometres), Nagauri Gate (3.2 kilometres) and Umaid Bhawan Palace (4.2 kilometres). Once again we advise you to arrange a pickup with your hotel. Otherwise, there is a taxi stand close to the station gate. Find out the distance to your hotel and negotiate the fare accordingly. For a 6 kilometer distance, the price should be around INR 185 (don’t pay more than INR 200). Use this as a baseline.

  • By Road

Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) bus services are available along with other luxury or Volvo buses which ply from all the major cities of Rajasthan, as well as from Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. A one way trip would cost you anywhere from INR 100 to 700, depending on the distance as well as the service provided.

Another popular way to travel to Jodhpur is by taxis/cabs. There are a lot of different taxi/ cab service companies which give you choices in the model of the car and charge on a per kilometre basis (around INR 10 to 25 per kilometer) plus additional charges for a driver. The total time taken on road will be around 9 hours (Delhi), 7.5 hours (Ahmedabad) and around 5 hours (Jaipur). If you plan to drive yourself, you may choose to stopover in some important cities like Jaipur, Ajmer and/or Pali, on the way.

So, there are quite a few options available for you. Choose wisely and enjoy your trip to Jodhpur. Have a safe journey!
