What are the ways to reach Gulmarg?

0 people found this answer useful Useful ?Yes

Reaching Gulmarg is an adventure in itself and more like a relay race. From flying in the open blue skies of the plains to the misty, cloud engulfing skies of the Himalayas to driving up the winding, hilly roads, your options are:

  • By Air

If time is of the essence and you don't want to spend it on travel then flight is your option. Srinagar Airport is the nearest airport to Gulmarg, at a distance of 56 km. There are an average of 8 flight runs to Srinagar from Delhi. From the Airport, direct buses and cabs are available to Gulmarg. Cabs will cost you around INR 1,200 to INR 1,500. The journey will take you 2 to 2.5 hours.

  • By Road

You could take a bus or a cab to Gulmarg, if driving up to your destination is what sets the vacation going for you. However, from Delhi, Gulmarg is 910 km away via NH10 and it will take you 15 hours of road journey to get there. A trip to Gulmarg will involve a car/cab or bus ride, but its extent depends on you. Once you land at Srinagar Airport, you can either take a Prepaid Taxi/MUV or the daily sightseeing coaches run by SRTC from the Tourist Reception Center. Keep in mind that these coaches are run only in the Summers. In Winters you could take the bus from the Airport to Tanmarg. From Tanmarg, you will easily get a bus or cab to Gulmarg.

  • By Train

For some of us a vacation is typically linked with long, winding train journeys. If that's you, then you could take a train to travel to Gulmarg. The nearest Railway Station is at Jammu, Jammu Tawi Railway Station, at a distance of 271 km. From here, you can take a taxi or a bus. It will take you about 4.5 hours of road journey to get to Gulmarg.

Once you enter Jammu and Kashmir and begin the last leg of your journey, the effort taken to get to Gulmarg will be paid back in awe-inspiring, breathtaking alpine scenery, majestic Himalayan ranges looming in the distance, and clean, mist laden, mountain air.
