What can be a suitable itinerary for Alchi?

To be honest, you can cover Alchi within a day as apart from the Alchi-Choskor, and some curio shops, there isn’t much to do here. At first glance, it gives the impression of being an unimposing sleepy hamlet with small scattered houses and few monks resting under apricot and apple groves, but it has loads of hidden treasures waiting to be found. This village is more frequented for a more relaxed, idyllic break rather than an action-packed trip. However, if you don’t have that much time to spare, we have created an itinerary for you, which more or less covers all the major tourist attractions in Alchi.

  • Day 1

Take a jeep or a bus from Leh to reach Alchi. On the way you can stop at Gurdwara Pathar Saheb and the Basgo Monsatry. After covering 70 kilometres, you will reach this village. Stop for lunch at any small dhaba or restaurant which is more abundant around the Alchi Monastery and the hotel areas. Visit the monastery and all its temples after which you will have enough time to stroll around the village and taking in the picturesque surroundings. Poke your head in one or two curio shops, you will definitely find a lot of interesting stuffs in there. Once you are done, you can either choose to spend the night in one of the hotels or campsites or head back to Leh.

This itinerary is made keeping in mind the quickest and the most efficient way of covering this destination. However, if you have time on your hands, we would strongly recommend you to stay here for a few days. You can go rafting in the Indus or hiking in the village itself or move further ahead, following the mountainous trails. Chat with the locals and bask in their simplicity, warmth and generous hospitality. Who knows, you might end up with a best friend for life. Nowhere else would you find such an idyllic and relaxing spot where you can simply be and revel in doing nothing.

If you feel like hiding away from the rest of the world, the peace and solitude here would do wonders for your soul.
