What can be a suitable itinerary for Chikmagalur?

If you can make a proper plan for your trip to Chikmagalur, you can enjoy to the fullest. Well, even if Chikmagalur is a very small town, there are places and things on your list that can be covered in one whole day. Are you ready, read on!

Day one

  • The first thing that you can head for on your arrival to Chikmagalur right after a fulfilling breakfast is Kallathigiri Falls. It is situated 10 km away from the city along the majestic gorges of the Baba Budhan ranges. It is quite a sight to see water cascading down from the top of the Chandra Drona hill from a height of 122 meters amidst fascinating scenery. the place is also popular as a pilgrim spot with the Veerabhadra temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, constructed in a gap between rocks and one of the famous temples in Chikmagalur. However you will have to cross the waterfall to reach the temple.

  • After coming back from the waterfall you can have your lunch amidst the lush greenery of the coffee plantations of Kambihalli Estate, Coffee Barn Cafe is a wonderful place to spend time in the serene green surroundings. The cuisine that is served in the cafe is ‘Bistro’. The place is a brilliant spot for breakfasts and lunches, the gorgeous is better enjoyed in the daylight. However, if you plan to be to the place in the evening, which is also a good idea, you should arrange for your convenience. The place can be slightly deserted at night.

  • After Lunch you can head toSringeri. Sringeri is a holy town located 90 km west of Chikmagalur town. It is situated on the revered banks of Tunga, a Vedic Peetha established by Sri Adi Shankara, the famous exponent of the Advaita philosophy in 9th Century A.D. It is famous for the Vidyashankara Temple that was originally constructed by the Hoysalas and later completed by the founders of the Vijayanagara Empire. Sharada temple was an early 20th century addition to the place. In the Vidyashankara shrine, there are 12 zodiac pillars, which are so constructed that the rays of the sun fall on the pillar corresponding to the month.
