If you happen to be in Gwalior on your next vacation, we assure you that you are going to be spoilt for choices when it comes to planning your day. We give a few suggestions that may suit your schedule. Well, no compulsion as such, ultimately the choice has to be yours.

Day 1

  • Check into a hotel of your choice in the morning, rest for some time and have a refreshing breakfast. Post breakfast, you should go to Jai Villas Palace, which is located quite close to Gwalior Railway Junction. Check out the awesome collection of antiques and unique gadgets belonging to the olden times.

  • From here, take an auto or cab to Man Mandir Palace, a structure adorned with patterns of animals, flowers and human forms, in tile and paint. A significant site which should interest you in the palace is Jauhar Pond, where the Rajput ladies used to commit Sati.

  • After a spellbinding sightseeing, you can treat your tastebuds to some yummy food. So, move to Swad Restaurant, located at the nearby Manik Vilas Colony. Malai Kofta and Gulab Jamuns are especially famous here. If you up for an amazing cafe experience-coffee, dosas, lassi- then you can try Indian Coffee House.

  • Post lunch, head straight to Gwalior Fort, for it the cultural and historical vein of the city. On your way, you can also check out Chaturbhuj Temple. The Gwalior Fort covers an area of 3 sq km and is home to three temples, six palaces and a number of water tanks. Teli ka Mandir is the most prominent among them. Apart from this, you can visit the other 2 pillars called Saas-Bahu Temples. Then you can move on to the palace complexes within the fort premises. If you are a fond historian, go to the base of Gwalior Fort where within Gujari Mahal, you can find the State Archaeological Museum, which houses several antique Jain and Hindu sculptures.

  • By the time you’ll be done with exploring this huge structure called Gwalior Fort, you will be well within the timings of the brilliant light and sound show which is organized at 8.30 pm in the summers (
March to October) and at 7.30 pm in winters (November to February). There is no way you can afford to give it a miss.

  • Then, you can indulge in some quick shopping in the nearby Phalke Bazaar, after which you should head to your hotel for a sumptuous meal.

  • If you intend to party in the night, Gwalior offers a number of choices such as DnD Discotheque, Barcode Discotheque and Bar, The Bada Bar, to name a few. You can opt for any as per your preference and budget.

    Day 2

  • After a comfortable sleep, wake up as per your convenience in the morning next day and indulge your taste buds to an authentic Gwalior-special breakfast.

  • After breakfast, you can set out on a shopping spree across the markets of the city. Gwalior is particularly known for its handlooms, artefacts and jewellery. You can head to Jiyaji Bazar, the central focus of the town around which thrive a number of markets in the narrow lanes that proceed from this point. Gandhi Market is also nearby which you can visit to look for more varieties.

  • By then, you would be utterly hungry. Worry not, for there is Kwality Restaurant nearby, especially famous for its Chicken bhurta (curry with roasted eggplant) and Butter Paneer Masala. Also close by is Domino’s.

  • After lunch, you must pay a visit to Dindayal City Mall, the biggest mall of Madhya Pradesh. Here you find a number of international brands like Lee cooper, Spykar, Reebok, Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut, Crisp Corner, and much more.

  • For those interested in the culture of the city, some prominent hotels of the city organize cultural dance and music performances which you can enjoy in the evenings after a tiring day outside. Usha Kiran Palace is one such hotel.

Well, this is just an overview of the destination. You may formulate an itinerary of your own, depending on your preferences.
