Surrounded by hills and valleys, the weather in Kausani is, quite naturally, dictated by forces of nature. Situated at an altitude of 1890 metres above sea level, it is naturally a cool, and during some months cold, place and you should go prepared according to the time of the year you travel to Kausani in. The climate here can be broadly divided into the three following seasons:

  • Summer

Cool breeze, soft sunshine and lush greenery describe this season here. Summer lasts here between
March and June and the temperature ranges between 12 to 25 degrees celsius. You could carry light woolens, or maybe just a windcheater along to keep you warm during chilly nights.

  • Monsoons

Kausani receives a substantially high amount of rainfall, as high as 1777 mm to 3048 mm. This is a risky time to visit this hill-station, as the area becomes slippery and prone to small landslides. Roads also become quite difficult to drive on. If you are in Kausani during this time, be prepared to carry lots of books and music too keep you company in your hotel room, for that’s where you’ll be spending most of your time.

  • Winter

Covered in a blanket of white, the winter season between October and February here sees a good amount of snowfall and chilly winds. You can experience almost freezing point temperatures between December and January, when the mercury drops down to nearly 2 degrees celsius. Heavy woolens and boots are a must if you’re going to be braving such extreme temperatures. But if you’re a lover of snow, you’ll be only glad to plan your trip during this season.

Based on these climatic conditions, the best time to visit Kausani is undoubtedly during the summer months of April to June. Allowing you to escape the usual city heat and yet not freezing you in the process, this time in summer thus becomes the most popular touristseason in Kausani.

Once the monsoons retreat, you could try planning a trip to Kausani during the months of September to November, when the mercury has just about begun to drop and yet is not too cold. This is also the best time to get a great view of the Himalayan peaks, as the sky is at its clearest best during this period.
