The climate of a place can greatly affect the amount of fun you have on a trip. If the weather gods stay happy, you can be sure to come back with happy memories of your trip. The weather in Khajuraho can be quite variable, especially the way the mercury oscillates between day and night. Here's a peep into the various seasons in Khajuraho:

  • Summer: Merciless sunshine and scorching temperatures define the summer season in Khajuraho. The mercury here can go as high as 47 degrees celsius during the day, though the nights are a bit cooler at 30 degrees celsius. If you're not used to such heat, it's advisable for you to steer clear from this destination. This season begins in April and goes up to July. If you do decide to travel during this time, carry light, airy cotton clothes to beat the heat!

  • Monsoon: When the rain gods rejoice, the people in Khajuraho sigh in relief from the scorching summer heat. The months of August and September see a fair amount of rainfall, averaging around 50 to 60 cm. It might dampen your itinerary a little if you do choose to travel during this time since moving around in the rain might be a little difficult. Make sure to pack your umbrellas if you plan your trip in this season.

  • Winter: Once the monsoons retreat, the weather in Khajuraho cools down considerably, making it ideal to step out during the day and explore its rustic beauty. The winter season in Khajuraho starts around October and goes up till early March. The mercury drops quite a bit, and can go down as low as 4 degrees celsius during December and January. Though you might not be able to step out of your cosy beds at night, this would be a great time for some monument and temple hopping in the lazy, winter sun. Light woolens and perhaps an additional jacket for those extra cold days would be a good idea while travelling during this season.

Clearly then, the best time to visit Khajuraho is between October and March when the weather is pleasant and ideal for sightseeing. The famous Khajuraho Dance Festival, held between 1st and 7th February every year also falls during this time and is a major attraction for art enthusiasts and tourists alike. Be sure to carry some woolens as the nights tend to get quite chilly. Also be on the lookout for post-monsoon rains that may surprise you!

Armed with this handy information, all you need to do is pack up and head for a memorable trip. Don't forget to pack your camera!
