Surrounded by verdant hills and beautiful lakes, the weather in Shillong is, quite naturally, affected by forces of nature. The climate can decide how much fun you have on your holiday, and more importantly, what kind of fun. Plan your trip according to Shillong's climate, listed below, and you can be sure about having amazing fun. There are some amazing places to visit in Shillong you need to explore.

  • Summer
Mostly between March and June, summer in Shillong is characterised by cool temperature and a clean, fresh air. The mercury usually hovers around 24 degrees celsius, so its quite bearable during the day to roam about, especially if you're used to peak summers in the rest of India.

  • Monsoon
Between June and August, the city sees a moderate to high amount of rainfall, especially since it's close to places like Cherrapunjee, which see some of the highest levels of rainfall in India. It is usually advisable to avoid visiting Shillong during this time, since roads may be difficult to maneuver and rain may dampen your sightseeing plans.

  • Winter
Get those woolens out of hibernation and let them breathe in the chilly winter air of Shillong. The mercury takes quite a dip between November and February, and can go as low as 2 degrees celsius in December and January. These are the peak winter months when Shillong may see some snowfall too. But for the most part, the climate is not too extreme and can be quite pleasant during the day.

Clearly then, the best timeto visit Shillong is during the months of March to April and then again, after monsoons, in October and November.
