Though there are no museums in Chail, everywhere you stretch your gaze, it's history you can see. Be it the Maharaja's Palace, Kali ka tibba or local handicrafts; they are all remnants of Chail's cultural heritage, preserved and continued on to this day by the combined efforts of the locals and HPTDC.

  • Local flavour

You will find that most locals are bilinguals and speak both Pashto and Kohistani. Of course, with inflow of tourists from around the world, Hindi and English are spoken too. With limited educational facilities, the children are sent outstation for studying. Tourism, farming, timber, saw mills are the drivers of the local economy. Being a small town, it has remained geographically and socially isolated from the influx of changes and influences that tourism brought to other regions of Himachal, allowing many of the Himachali traditions to be preserved here. It is only in the past decade that Chail has come under the mainstream radar.

The popular sleepy and laid back image of Chail is a reflection of the serenity and tranquility that you are bound to find here, while meandering through the forest trails or watching the sunset from the hilltops as the sinewy reds and purple blend into the twilight.
