Mahabaleshwar is a beautiful, small hill station located in the Western Ghats and houses one of the few evergreen forests of India. Before making you aware of the wonders and thrills of this place, lets take a sneak peak in the history.

This nature's blessing is the source to five rivers namely, Krishna,Venna,Koyna and Gayatri adding to its spectacular ambiance. The place has a vibrant history of rule, with King Singhan of Deogiri being the first one to come and set up a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva which is now revered as the famous Mahabaleshwar Temple and a tank at the source of River Krishna. Do not miss the visit to this ancient temple.

Brahmin dynasty was the first to rule Mahabaleshwar, followed by Chandrarao More, from the Maratha Family. He was then defeated by Shivaji Maharaj whose tales of bravery you must be well acquainted with. It was in his rule that the majestic Pratapgad Fort was built to fight the Britishers. After his death the hill was ruled by the Peshwas and finally went in the hands of the Europeans who included it in the territory of the Raja of Satara. General P. Lodwick was the first Britisher to come and visit the hill station and was marveled by its sheer beauty. Mahabaleshwar was then made the Summer Capital of the Bombay Province. The vivid history of Mahabaleshwar in itself defines the vibrant culture and heritage of the place. You will be delighted to discover a fine mix of the rich ancient Maharashtrian culture and modern sophistication. Marathi is the most commonly spoken language with Hindi and English being the other main languages. Ganesh Chaturthi is the main festival in Maharashtrian culture and is celebrated with much pomp and grandeur. The people here are rooted to the customs and traditions and have their unique way of celebrating with their invigorating folk dance and music.
