0 people found this answer useful Useful ?Yes

When we talk about the historical part of any destination, we get to know many more interesting facts beyond what is obvious. The same could be said for Pune as the city with its glorious Maratha history and Osho connection, a host of sightseeing attractions, pleasant weather and a largely dynamic crowd of students and young professionals, proves wonderful for a vacation. Celebrated as Maharashtra's cultural capital, Pune bursts with educational institutes, museums and hill forts. Besides being a cultural and educational hub, Pune has ample attractions to satiate most visitors.

With a 16000 year old heritage, Pune has a rich past to boast of. You can still find centuries old monuments and temples like Pataleshwar caves and Nandi Mandapa (built during the 5th century) which have interesting stories attributed to them. The Rashtrakuta Kings also constructed a splendid temple of Lord Shiva but unfortunately it was destroyed when Sultan attacked Pune during the 17th century. The city witnessed significant growth when Chhatrapati Shivaji, the famous Maratha ruler, started looking after its redevelopment and construction of new monuments and palaces. He was the one who encouraged developing dams in Kondhwa and Parvati regions of the city. The great Shivaji ruled Pune during the years 1645 to 1680. It is known that the control of Pune went to the Mughal General Shahista Khan during 1660 and 1670. The battle for ownership continued for almost 27 years and finally it went to the Marathas.

Also known as the cultural capital of Maharashtra, Pune is on a transitional phase from an agricultural settlement in the past to one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Perhaps that is why many people find it strage, but still has its charm- whether it’s the lovely people, nice weather, good educational institutes and some splendid monuments. With IT companies making a base at Pune, it is the city for the young with growing job opportunities. Know more about the history and culture with these places to visit in Pune.
