Sleeping quietly along the Himalayan foothills is Ramnagar with a history of fluctuating development. It is believed that this was the capital city of Northern Panchala during the Mahabharata era. The next course of development started when Commissioner H. Ramsay re-structured the town in 1856-84. Then came the British, who gifted Ramnagar and the surrounding areas with tea gardens, an enterprise that didn’t last too long. Finally, with the development of the Jim Corbett National Park Ramnagar became popular once again.

Today, it is not only a favourite stopover for tourists travelling to Corbett but also reports claim that the Ramnagar Forest Division is the densest division for tigers outside a protected area. Travellers also flock the place for its scenic beauty. The simple people of Ramnagar are only welcoming towards the massive in pour of guests. The credit for their calm temperament could be very well given to the serene air here. With the growing pace of tourism, this happy lot of farmers are venturing out into hotel business, becoming tour operators, guides and travel agents.

It’s during the festivals here that you’ll get to peep into their cultural and traditional practices. The folk songs and dances here have a subtle style to it that you'll get to see no place else. The simple people, refreshing air and nature at its very best - Ramnagar is inviting you with arms wide open.
